PEI PROJECT
PEI has an estimated population of around 141,000 (2009) people living on it. It is the 23rd smallest island in Canada and is 104th smallest island in the world. PEI is in eastern Canada.
The capital city is Charlottetown and the three major towns are Charlottetown, Summerside, and Stratford. Some important towns are Charlottetown, Summerside, Kensington, Georgetown, Hunter River, O’Leary, New London, Cavendish, Montague, and Winsloe.
The founders of PEI are the Mi’kawka tribe named Pei Abegweit (meaning land cradled waves).
The three most exciting things to do in PEI are crossing The Confederation bridge because that opened in 1997 and is almost 13 km. Cavendish because of it’s beaches. Some of the beaches have red sand…cool! Anne of Green Gables is one of the most famous tourist attractions. You can see the house that Lucy Maud Montgomery lived in which inspired all her books. Anne of green gables was 1st performed in PEI and is about a girl that lived in PEI.
PEI is the 7th Canadian province. Another name for P.E.I. is garden of the gulf referring to the beautiful scenery and lush agricultural lands throughout the province. The island was named for Prince Edward Duke of Kent and Strathearn in (1767 to 1820) the fourth son of King George the third and father of Queen Victoria.
PEI grows Irish moss which is a sea weed that grows under water on rocks along the Atlantic coast (Irish moss contains carragreen).
PEI’s main industries are tourism, fishing and farming.

Many of the people on PEI have come from Brittan and West Europe.
PEI became a province in 1873.
PEI has 1 national park named PEI national park.
PEI has a large food processing industry.
PEI has a factory that packages bottles, cans and freeze food.
PEI makes fertilizer wood products and medical products.
PEI has a large fishing industry some fish include herring, tuna and mackerel.
PEI has many farms and they grow lots of potatoes. Some of PEI natural resources are potato crops, forestry, soil, animals, and plants. We use these natural resources to buy animals for our food, we use potatoes to cook and eat. We use soil to grow food and we use plants to get fruit and vegetables. We use forestry for wood and paper.
After learning so much about PEI I would really like to go there some day.
